A Journey Between Old and New: My Personal Odyssey

Updated: Sep 4, 2023

Welcome back to MaktuB, a sanctuary where destiny, culture, and life intertwine.

Born into a Berber family in Morocco, my life has been a unique tapestry of tradition and modernity. This duality has led me to discover that honoring my roots doesn’t mean forsaking the new world I find myself in; rather, it’s about weaving the old and new into a more resilient, vibrant fabric.

As a child, family gatherings were a microcosm of my dual worlds. While elders recounted tales rooted in Berber tradition, my family, friends and I would be engrossed in conversation about the latest tech gadgets or new computer games yes i was born in the 80 s.

In those moments, the past and present didn’t clash; instead, they wove together into a tapestry that felt both rich and forward-looking.

After reflecting on how to best illustrate this blend of old and new for this post, a recent experience came to mind as a timely reminder. Just a few months ago, I was driving through modern Casablanca with my kids in the backseat.

Amidst the hustle and bustle of city life, we saw something that captured the essence of my personal odyssey: a young man galloping on his camel while checking his smartphone. In that moment, I realized that the blend of past and present isn’t just a chapter from my childhood; it’s a living narrative, continually unfolding.

This constant interplay between old and new has taught me invaluable lessons. It has shown me that tradition doesn’t have to be a relic of the past, nor does embracing modernity require turning one’s back on heritage.

Instead, these two realms can coexist and even enrich each other. This duality has made me more adaptable, open-minded, and appreciative of the intricate weave of experiences that make up life’s tapestry.

As I continue on this journey, navigating the vibrant blend of old and new, I’m excited to delve deeper into specific facets that have shaped me.

In my next post, I’ll be exploring the intricate role that spirituality has played in this personal odyssey.

So stay tuned, because the journey is far from over, and I can’t wait to share more insights and stories with you.

Living between two worlds has been both a challenge and a gift, offering me a unique lens through which to view life’s complexities.

I’m grateful for this tapestry of experiences that make me who I am today, and I’m excited to keep unraveling the threads of this ongoing odyssey with you.

Thank you for taking the time to read and share in my journey. Until next time, keep weaving your own tapestry, and remember: the journey itself is the destination.
